Couple of updates: Again, the 300/900 guns without "XL" in front of the number are recoil operated. The XL300/900 guns were gas operated. Production overlapped during the early '70s. Got the new gun on Friday. See my post on the SKB forum for additional info on the differences between the Type 1 and Type 2 guns.

10297 posts · Joined 2004. #8 · Apr 19, 2006. The Ithaca/SKB Model 300 Standard was made from 1968 until 1972 in 12 and 20 gauge. It was a recoil operated semi auto shotgun. with 26",28" or 30" fixed choked barrels. The vent rib guns are worth in the $350 - $150 range.

This is a gas operated 12 gauge model that I inherited from dad, along with his Ithaca 900 recoil operated 20 gauge. They've been put away for 25 years.

The price is about right for a "fair " gun. The XL 300 is a gas operated semi. The XL900 has the same barrels and inner workings, just the deluxe grade. The barrels are black chromed not blued, so they don't scratch or rust as quick. I am in Canada and Ron Sharp in Ontario has lots of parts. There are gunsmiths in the USA with parts also.
